Tibetan Spaniels are relatively rare. It takes time to find a responsible breeder who produces good quality dogs and is ready to support future breed owners through raising and training puppies. To find a good breeder, one is advised to contact breed clubs and ask for references. Breeders who have a lot of experience with these dogs are sure to produce puppies in accordance with the breed standard. Responsible breeders also take care of the health condition of the breeding stock and the puppies.
As for the health concerns in the breed, the Tibetan Spaniel does not suffer from many congenital diseases. The breed may be prone to eye and joint problems. Both the sire and the dam should have health certificates. It is interesting to know that Tibetan Spaniel females come into heat once a year. These dogs are slow to mature.
Tibetan Spaniels - Choosing a Puppy
Tibetan Spaniels have a litter of 2-4 puppies. To choose the right puppy, ask the breeder a few questions about the puppy's habits and activity level. Tibetan Spaniels are usually active especially as puppies. They should not display any aggressiveness.
