All Tibetan Spaniels have unique characteristics that distinguish one dog from another. This makes the canine world so interesting. Due to a diversity of personalities and habits in Tibetan Spaniels, there arise different opinions about the breed. Breeders and owners may disagree on some breed features because they have different experience with their dogs. However, there are some facts that cannot be denied. They make up a picture of the Tibetan Spaniel.
What is definite about the breed is that it is very intelligent. The Tibetan Spaniel is eager to please its owners. Breed owners state that Tibetan Spaniels learn commands very quickly. However, this breed has a mind of it own. Sometimes, the dogs appear to be willful. They need positive reinforcement and lots of communication. Tibetan Spaniels are people-oriented dogs and love the family members.
Tibetan Spaniels are best with a small yard. They do not need a lot of space and are suited for apartment dwellers. In fact, the Tibetan Spaniel is not a kennel dog. These dogs need human contact and cannot spend a lot of time on their own. City dwellers are attracted to the breed due to its low exercise needs. The Tibetan Spaniel is OK with a few brief walks a day.
Tibetan Spaniels - Are They Hyperactive?
Tibetan Spaniels tend to be wary of strangers. They will announce the presence of a stranger at the door immediately. The breed should not be aggressive though. The Tibetan Spaniel is playful, yet does not show the signs of hyperactivity.

Tibetan Spaniels are generally healthy dogs. They do not have many inherited diseases. The breed tends to suffer from respiratory conditions due to the short muzzle. PRA is also seen in the breed. Tibetan Spaniels live for about 15 years and longer.
